HOW TO START A CLUB
INTERESTED IN STARTING A CLUB?
Starting a new school club is a collaborative process that requires a faculty advisor, a group of interested students, and approval through the ASB. Clubs must be optional, extracurricular, and cultural, athletic, recreational, or social in nature. Students work with their advisor to develop a club constitution and planning documents, which are reviewed by the ASB Executive Board and Student Council before a final vote. Once approved, the club elects officers and begins operating under school district policies and ASB financial procedures, with the advisor providing guidance, supervision, and oversight.
KEY STEPS TO START A CLUB
- Find a faculty advisor willing to supervise the club.
- Ensure the club is optional, extracurricular, and non-graded.
- Confirm the club aligns with one of these purposes:
- Cultural
- Athletic
- Recreational
- Social
- If the club wants to meet during the school's monthly club meeting time, it must relate to the school's curriculum.
- Gather interested students to:
- Complete a Club Planning Form (linked in handbook below)
- Write a Club Constitution (sample linked in handbook below)
- Submit both documents to the ASB Executive Board for review.
- Present the proposal at an ASB Student Council meeting for a first reading and feedback.
- Attend the next ASB meeting for discussion and a vote on club approval.
- If approved, elect club officers according to the club constitution.
- Follow all ASB financial and district procedures, including student approval of purchases, proper handling of funds, record keeping, and advisor supervision.
